Tinkering with Android – Sharing Some Experiences with Android Development

This month, Bob Lutz, a recent new member of our Java Users Group, will give a presentation about his experiences in developing for the Android. In particular:
  • A tour of Android and some compelling Google apps: Google Maps, Navigation, Barcode Scanner, photos, and photo sharing
  • His experiences so far: sockets, sensors, REST, XMPP, zxing
  • The SDK, tools adb shell, adb logcat
  • Mounting the drives
  • Developing from within Eclipse - Using the Android plugin
  • Emulation (Not!)
  • Debugging
  • Building a "Hello World" app
  • Experiences and Hints:
    • Activities, Services, Intents
    • Other tools (DRoidDraw, hierarchical view)
    • Packaging format
  • Q&A Discussion
  • Ad hoc 'peer' Programming

Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad second floor meeting hall starting promptly at 7:30pm. Meetings are open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to join ACGNJ.
